Long live Kyoji

Last night I discovered that one of my all time favourite rock guitar players Kyoji Yamamoto has a bunch of recent videos posted on youtube.  Look under "wildlandcorporation." I also found a wonderful version of "Goodbye Porkpie Hat."  Wonderful whammy bar technique and emotion.

Someone commented that Kyoji smokes Satriani.  Must agree.

Slag Tanz

Listening again to the "new" Magma Slag Tanz.  This piece keeps sticking in my head.  Nice counter time as usual.  Can't wait for a newer version as this one is a work in progress.  I listened to a 12/1973 show on the way to Seattle on Sunday.  Kontarkozsz and Theusz Hamtaak were works in progress at that time - much different than the completed versions.

Mahavishnu Orchestra - The Lost Trident Sessions

Nice dynamics and nicely recorded.  Not sure why they didn't release this when they recorded it.  I love those great arpegiated chords that JM played on those recordings.  I didn't really appreciate it until I got the actual sheet music.  Very fun to play on guitar.

What I've been listening to

I'm now working on Seattle. Thus, I have been riding the bus a lot and listening to lots of music. This week: Robin Trower: Living Out of Time, Cafe Tacuba: Reves/Yosoy, Babasonicos: Infame.

More to come
